What is the NDIS in one sentence?

Do I need a formal diagnosis to apply?

Generally yes — the NDIS needs evidence of a permanent and significant disability from your treating professionals. For children under 9, the early childhood approach has a different pathway and doesn't always require a formal diagnosis upfront.

How long does it take to get a plan?

Timeframes vary. After your access request is decided, planning meetings are usually arranged within weeks rather than months — but it depends on your situation and the NDIA's current workload. We can help you prepare so things move as smoothly as possible.

What's the difference between self, plan and NDIA managed?

Self-managed means you handle the funding directly. Plan-managed means a plan manager pays providers for you. NDIA-managed means the NDIA pays providers and you can only use registered providers. See our 'Using your plan' page for more.

Can I choose any provider?

If you're self-managed or plan-managed, you can choose any provider — registered or not. If you're NDIA-managed, you can only use NDIS-registered providers.

Can I change providers if it isn't working out?

Yes. You're not locked in. A good provider will help you transition respectfully if your needs change, and we always aim to make that conversation an easy one.

Is UCCS an NDIS-registered provider?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Unlimited Community Care Services is a registered NDIS provider, audited against the NDIS Practice Standards and bound by the NDIS Code of Conduct. That means you can use your funding with us whether your plan is self-managed, plan-managed or NDIA-managed. If you're not sure how your plan is managed, get in touch and we'll help you check.

We focus on people living with intellectual disability and autism — children, teens and adults. We're a culturally responsive, neuro-affirming team and we tailor support to each person's communication style, sensory needs and goals.
